Beyond the Classroom

At Repton, we develop children’s moral integrity and compassion, their intellectual and emotional resilience, and their collaborative and problem solving competence.

Preparation for the reality of life involves learning a variety of skills and values. We nurture a student competence set and moral code both inside and outside the classroom, which prepares children to thrive and contribute long after their years at school.

The vehicles for such personal development include

  • Pupil Council Representation
  • Digital Team Representation
  • Charity work
  • Environmental care
  • Guest speakers
  • Theatre shows
  • Musical performances and choir recitals
  • Dance performances
  • Class assemblies
  • After school clubs (ECAs)
  • Peripatetic music tuition
  • Inter-school competitions
  • Outdoor adventure
  • Field trips
  • Careers Day

These activities, as well as being a lot of fun, enable us to help prepare our Repton students to be responsible and resilient young people, ready to make a positive contribution to their world.

Introduction

We are very proud to deliver the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award at Repton Abu Dhabi. The Award is a non-formal education and learning framework operating in more than 130 countries and territories around the world, through which young people’s achievements outside of academia are recognised and celebrated. Through developing transferable skills, increasing their fitness levels, cultivating a sense of adventure and volunteering in their community, the Award helps young people to find their purpose, passion and place in the world.

Taking part in the Award requires commitment over time but it will give you the opportunity to develop the wider ‘soft’ – or universal – skills which help ensure you are ready for your world.

For many the highlight of the International Award at Repton Abu Dhabi will be the Adventurous Journeys which usually take place in January and March of each year in one of the Northern Emirates and consists of 2-4 days hiking, camping and navigating in unfamiliar terrain.

About the Award at Repton Abu Dhabi

There are three levels of Award – Bronze (for those over 14), Silver (for those over 15) and Gold (for those over 16) and the award consists of four sections designed to provide a balanced programme of personal development and challenge. These are;

  • Voluntary Service – to learn how to give useful voluntary service to others in the community.

  • Skills  – to encourage development of personal interests, creativity or practical skills.

  • Physical Recreation – to encourage participation in physical recreation and improvement of performance.

  • Adventurous Journey – to encourage a spirit of adventure and discovery whilst planning and undertaking a journey in a group.
